Along with teaching public yoga classes, Ann works with clients privately - at my office, at your house or online, to address specific injuries or demystify the process. You will be introduced to the basics of Yoga and Meditation, and very specifically be guided to work at your own pace and level. Ann will teach you how to modify poses to suit your particular needs and cover everything you may expect in a class setting.
Ann also teaches her massage clients specific yoga poses to empower them to get into alignment themselves through their own practice. I have added Rolf Movement to my yoga classes and post massage in some cases.
Recently I added another clinical approach to the teaching of yoga as therapy for injuries, by studying for more than 100 hours with Dr. Loren Fishman through 2020. So far, I been awarded the following three certifications in Dr. Loren Fishman’s Method:
September 2020 Yoga for Low Back Pain
October 2020 Yoga for Knees and Hips
November 2020 Yoga for Bone Health and the Prevention or Reversal of Osteoporosis
Well it depends on what is causing the pain as we have different poses for different conditions - for example - herniated discs and spinal stenosis often display similar symptoms but require opposite treatments with yoga therapy. Dr. Fishman’s method can relieve low back pain by the practice of specific yoga poses for each of the following conditions:
Yoga for Herniated Discs
Yoga for Spinal Stenosis
Yoga for QL Spasm
Yoga for Facet Syndrome
Yoga for Piriformis Syndrome
Yoga for SI Derangement
Yoga for Sciatica
Yoga for Spondylitis
The Hips:
Yoga for Arthritis of the Hips.
Yoga for Hip Replacement: (The Anterior Approach requires different poses to the Posterior Approach).
Yoga for Labral Tear
Yoga for FAI - Femoral Asatabular Impingement
The Knees:
Yoga for Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) Injury is not the same as Yoga for ACL
Yoga for Medial Meniscal Tear differs from
Yoga for Lateral Meniscal Tear.
Yoga for Chondromalacia Patella Syndrome.
Yoga for Osteoarthritis of the Knee
Yoga for Total Knee Replacement
Yoga for Bone Health, Preventing and Reversing Osteoporosis
Dr. Fishman has spent over 20 years researching the effects of yoga on bone health, working with real people. He demonstrates in this training, that a daily practice of holding certain balancing and standing poses in a dynamic manner, not only prevents Osteoporosis but in most cases, reverses Osteopenia and Osteoporosis.
I teach the Dr. Fishman Method for Bone Health - using the three B’s - Breath, Balance and Bone Strengthening. We start with a centering breath, then we work on opening up the fascia on the bottom of the feet, before proceeding to the yoga practice. It is recommended to hold each standing or balancing pose in a dynamic manner for at least 20-30 seconds, in order to stimulate bone growth.
